Many years back, I wrote an article for BFB entitled "big man/little man" (if my memory serves me correct), which concerned the need for a target man, with a smaller more mobile player to feed off him. Mills and Blake prompted the article, but memories of Leonard, Campbell, Sticks, McCarthy and their smaller striking partners all backed up the fact that City are successful with this type of combo.

This season it didn't happen - with Big Bazza and Thorne both acting as target men it just didn't work out. Its interesting to note that our second top scorer was a little guy who fed off the knock downs off both our big guys up front. I definitely think that Topp can play the Blake role, he's got the skill and ability (minus the arse), but like Robbie, I just hope he can keep interested when its not going right for him, to be there when the big man sings.

If BfB had been around after Christmas 1997 it would have said that Beagrie had those abilities but that he does not use them - he twists on the ball and little else. In the same way Daley just runs fast but on the days - which do not come often enough - he is unplayable by a League Two defence.

If Omar Daley could not be good then he would be easy to ignore - like Alex Rhodes was - but he can go past men with the ball, he can play crosses that are accurate, he can score belting goals.

The difference of course is that Beagrie had the abilit to beat a full-back, the ability to deliver a wonderful cross, the ability to cut inside and score magnificent goals, was strong in the air and had a passion and will-to-win.

Daley can run fast.
